*Black Lava Cuff

The Black Lava Cuff translates the movement of molten matter into a broad sculptural form. Across the oxidised silver surface, dense fields of glass granules gather, separate and flow into irregular formations, evoking lava as it cools and changes state.
Black pearls appear within the composition as deep, iridescent points of colour, while marcasite introduces smaller, sharper flashes of light.
The surface is created through Glass Granulation, a proprietary technique developed by Francesca Marcenaro since 2004. The process through which the glass is fused to the metal is carried out personally and exclusively by Francesca, while its technical details remain confidential. This direct control of the process gives each piece its distinctive tactile surface and subtle, unrepeatable variations.
An example of the Black Lava Cuff is held in the permanent collection of the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas in Madrid, recognising the work as part of the continuing development of contemporary jewellery and material research..
