“Wings” large Brooch

Hand-carved from ebony and edged in silver, this piece is brought to life with Francesca Marcenaro’s signature Glass Granulation: an exacting surface of hand-placed glass granules, fused into a dense, shimmering skin. In this work, Francesca extends the method further, threading the granulated field with minute, flat fragments of coloured, reflective glass.

The result is quietly dramatic. As light shifts, the surface transitions from a gentle, velvety bloom to sudden, luminous sparks—brightness flickering against the profound black of the wood. Every incision and every granule is set by hand, forming a tactile topography that invites both touch and close looking.

Entirely one of a kind, this composition—and the way it catches and releases light—cannot be repeated, making the work a singular, contemporary statement in craft.
