“The Black Hole” brooch

Piece exhibited @ Collect 2024.-Somerset House, London as part of the selected “100 Brooches”  presented by Goldsmiths’ Fair 

A brooch conceived as a dual composition, where surface and reverse articulate two complementary states of the same form.

On the front, oxidised silver is traversed by radiating, granular textures that converge toward a central void, evoking a controlled collapse of matter and light. Marcasite and Glass Granulation punctuate the surface with restrained reflections, suggesting an energy held at the threshold of disappearance.

On the reverse, the composition opens into a dense, luminous field—an imagined interior where the same forces become expansive, vibrant, and unresolved. Hidden when worn, this inner dimension introduces a second reading of the piece, one that shifts from absence to intensity.

Through this interplay, the brooch holds a precise balance between opacity and brilliance, tension and release—where what is concealed becomes as significant as what is revealed.

The brooch is made in oxidised Silver, Marcasite and Glass Granulation.
